Garena Postpones Free Fire India Launch - What You Should Know Now


As per the company announcement in the last week, Garena was to launch Free Fire India on the 5th of September 2023, today. However, as per new announcement, the relaunch of Free Fire, a battle game, in India has been delayed for a few weeks. Here is everything that you should know about the launch of this royale battle game in India.

Delay in Garena Free Fire India Launch

Garena decided to launch its popular game on Google Play Store in India today, 5 September 2023. As per the recent developments, the company has delayed the launch of this game in India for a few weeks. In the official statement, the tech company said, “We are delighted by the overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from our Indian community to the announcement of the launch of Free Fire India. To ensure we can offer the best possible experience to all of our Free Fire India fans from the start, we will postpone the launch by a few more weeks”.

Further, the company said in the official statement, “In addition to refining the gameplay, we are taking some time to fully complete our localisation of the Free Fire India experience. We would like to thank our Free Fire India community for your support, and hope that you will bear with us while we work on bringing you the ultimate battle royale experience.”   

Garena Free Fire Returning in India Announcement

In the last official statement, Garena said that the upcoming game, Free Fire, would have original content with new features that will facilitate a healthy, safe, fun experience while playing it. Yotta, a Hiranandani Group Company, will produce local cloud storage and hosting infrastructure for this battle royale game. The game will have features like parental supervision, take a break reminders, and gameplay limitations.

In the last week's press release, Garena said, “As a MeitY-empanelled service provider, Yotta will ensure best in-class management of personal data of Indian users on local servers and network connectivity services to support Garena’s product offerings in India, including in exports”. The company announcement has also stated that MS Dhoni is the brand ambassador of this game and will be present as a playable character. Thala will be his playable character’s name in the game.

What’s New in Free Fire India?

According to the company announcement, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian Cricketer, will be the face of Free Fire India. He will be a playable character with the name Thala. Top 300 players of India will receive several exclusive features such as playtime limits and take a break reminders. Further, the company will keep users/players reminding that the action is in the virtual world, but not the real world. The game company has followed the rules and regulations as per the Indian laws.

Free Fire India - Tips on Pre-Registration and Download

From today, 5 September, you can go with the pre-registration on Google Play to download this game. To sign up, you need to search Free Fire India on Google Play Store and click on the Pre-Register button. After that, you can move to automatic download by following respective instructions. At present, there is no official announcement for the availability of this game on the Apple App Store.

Why Was This Popular Game Ban in India?  

It was February of 2022 when the Government of India brought restrictions or complete ban on Chinese apps in India citing security and privacy threat to Indian users. The Indian Government categorized Garena Free India security threat and put it in the list of banned apps in India even though it was developed and designed by a Singaporean company. At that time, the electronics and IT ministry of the Indian Government said that the ban was important due to a threat to the country’s security. BGMI was also a part of the banned apps in the country.
